ABOUT

Welcome to USS Valkyrie, my series of Star Trek fan-fiction, featuring original characters and an alternate universe that takes quite a few liberties with Star Trek canon. If I had to sum up what Valkyrie is all about I might start with something like this:

The year is 2372. The most devastating war in Federation history is over and Starfleet won - barely. But now the Romulans and Cardassians are poised to strike the weakened Federation, and the Klingons are ready to end their alliance with the Federation in their own bid for power and glory. The USS Valkyrie - the most-advanced Galaxy-class ship ever - and her crew are the sign of hope the Federation needs to make it through the difficult times ahead. The Valkyrie's mission: To rally the forces of Starfleet and preserve the very essence of the Federation.

Well... yes and no.

The above accurately describes part of the background of my Star Trek fan-fiction series, but if you expect "cool explosions" and big battles to be the focus of USS Valkyrie you are in for a surprise. I write about people, not special effects - military conflict may be the heart of the background, but it's not the heart of the series. The Valkyrie may be a frontline ship, but I write about her crew, not the ship. I try to present the crew as real people who struggle through difficult times and have to make some tough decisions. Those decisions have consequences, and those consequences have an influence on the crew in return.  That is what I believe Star Trek is all about - people and the choices they make.

If you are still interested I hope you will join me on my journey as I tell the tales of the USS Valkyrie and her crew, so just take a look around, read, and enjoy.

LATEST UPDATES

September 17, 2005:
I'm still here - and I am still writing, don't worry. ;-)
But the last few days I've been pretty busy experimenting with a program called Poser, which I have so far only used to create a few bodies for use in my photomanipulations. Only now I have begun to use it for a bit more than that, like this image (which I call "Nightshift"):

While very different from my other images, I like the result - and I hope you do so too. :-)

September 7, 2005:
And another seven more images in the Gallery. Four faux roleplaying game covers and three more images in the USS Galahad gallery (the "Turning Points" series).

September 4, 2005:
Seven more images in the Gallery. Writing (and the update at the Images page) continues. With two weeks of vacation heading my way I hope to finish both soon, but not promises.

September 2, 2005:
Updated the Gallery with six more images.
Still no estimate on when the next story will be finished, but I have two weeks of vacation coming up soon, and I hope to get some writing done during that time - not that I am not getting any writing done right now, but it's far from being something ready for publication. ;-)

August 27, 2005:
I created a Gallery for images and photomanipulations that may not be part of the ongoing Valkyrie story, but are still somewhat related to Star Trek and my fan-fiction. Images or stories that have no connection to either will still go to the Other Works page, but before I ever started writing I did a lot of images, and since there is no other place for me to showcase them... :-)

CONTACT

While I write Valkyrie mostly for the fun of it, I would like to hear how you like it. If you haven't done so already, why not send me an email (abodensohn@aol.com or webmaster@ussvalkyrie.net) and give me a piece of your mind? But before you start writing, here's a small piece of my mind, concerning critique and comments:

1) It doesn't matter if you think Valkyrie is great, sucks, or something in between. What matters to me is that you let me know why you think so, even if you think it's the best thing since sliced bread. You don't have to write several pages of detailed comments (but if you feel like it, please go ahead), but at least let me know why you think what you think in some general terms (good characters, bad pacing, etc.) - it's the only way for me to know what (in your eyes) I am doing right or wrong.

2) At least try to be polite. There is a big difference between "your stories are %#&$, because..." and "Personally I don't like it, because...". One of the differences is that one message may go unanswered, while I will take the other as something to really think about.
